My journey ‘in style’ thus far….

by Jason on July 27, 2009

I never did believe in looking *nice* or *fancy* back when I was in college (t-shirt and a single pair of blue jeans is all I have in my wardrobe being an IT geek), for the most part of my  schooling till late 20′s. Most of my clothes are either from my mom or gifts from my friends (I guess that’s their polite way of saying please get some style man! :( ) … and its usually too big/small, many size too big *imagining* I looked cool (I used to wear a size 34 jeans *cough, cough now 31* with a belt tied like a rucksack under a baggy shirt so that I look like a bass ass rapper.. err rite), t shirt tuckin’s and mismatch my belt to my shoes… well I broke almost all of the fashion rules out there being a clueless dude. Probably the most fashionable / stylish clothes I ever had then where my work clothes (and cost more since I buy it meself *bleh*). Thought I do read men’s magazine like GQs, FHM and Men’s Style…. I didn’t really quite ‘get it’ on this whole style / fashion scene and making bad choices.

My epiphany moment, from dud to dude, came when I got involved in a community of guys online who wants to get good with women and life in general (for those in the community, this is known as ‘peacocking’), and found that what your wear is a direct expression of your subconscious inner state. For example, if you had a hangover last night, you get up and feel like shit and just grab whatever clothes without much thought and crash on the couch, good chance you’ll sloppy because that’s how you feel at that moment. Same goes when are you are excited going on a hot date or hitting the nightclub, you would want to look your best and break out your best shirt and jeans. I all about feeling good and having a great state.

Having said that, people will notice by what you wear and instantly size you up whether you are a fun guy (ready to party!) or a grouchy person (stay away!) like a huge ass neon social signboard, broadcasting your internal state at that moment. Looking bad repels and being good gives out good vibes, in turn creates social value. People with high social value will want to hang out with like minded people and it all started with the inner expression … manifested in not just what you wear, but how you wear it.

Anyways, here’s something inspiring  (for me at least, this video sums up the general gist of this post) a music video from Korean pop group Big Bang with some REAL bass ass rappin’ :D Laters, and keep on stylin.
